I had a box of Oil Pastels given to me for Christmas. When I opened them, I was a little disappointed, as they were just the same as Children's Crayola crayons, but probably more expensive. Initially, I thought that they would be more like the chalk pastels that artists use but a little more waxy so they didn't turn to powder so easily when you use them, however still giving the chalky effect. That's what I thought pastels meant. Well they stayed in my cupboard for a while, as they were blunt on both ends, and I needed to get a sharpener to use them. Or so I thought, until I found this series of wonderful pictorials from
Dorcas Designs.
I followed the tutorials and found that they were perfect. So now I can use my stash, instead of watching it gather dust, and every time I use them I fondly remember who gave them to me with love as a Christmas present.
